Library Study LXXVIII is a 12" x 17" mixed media work that distils The Connor Brothers’ trademark blend of dry humour, cultural critique and emotional candour into a single, compact composition. The artwork depicts a tightly stacked row of fictional paperback spines, mimicking the worn aesthetic of mid-century Penguin titles, yet replacing classic literature with titles that read like confessions, diagnoses and punchlines. ā€œDepression: A Real Mood Killerā€, ā€œApathy: Couldn’t Give A F**k About Itā€ and ā€œThe Truth: You Couldn’t Make It Upā€ sit side by side with ā€œNasa: It’s Not Rocket Scienceā€ and the darkly comic ā€œDeath: That’s Lifeā€, each line revealing the gap between public faƧade and private reality.

The palette shifts from deep pinks through mauve into grey, echoing a slide from emotional intensity to numb detachment. Scattered coffee rings and ink splatters mark the surrounding white space, hinting at long nights, anxiety, or the quiet rituals that accompany reflection.
