Oli Arshinov’s Rolling Stones (40" x 47") is a striking reinvention of one of the most iconic images in popular culture. The instantly recognisable tongue and lips motif is transformed through Oli’s distinctive sculptural-painting technique, in which hundreds of individually hand-painted cubes are mounted onto a brushed aluminium surface. The result is a pixelated composition that comes alive as the viewer moves, constantly shifting and reassembling into new visual rhythms. The vivid reds and stark whites of the emblem emerge dynamically from a deep black ground, their tonal subtleties achieved through precise layering of more than 50 shades, giving the work a sense of depth, light and energy that feels both playful and monumental.
