Speckled Sea

Jack Davis’s Speckled Sea (12" x 16") is a quiet yet profoundly evocative seascape that distils the mood of a fleeting coastal moment into a compact and powerful composition. Rendered with a meticulous attention to texture and light, this intimate piece captures the luminous shimmer of reflected moonlight—or perhaps a break in the cloud—scattering across the surface of the ocean. The effect is both subtle and theatrical, giving the viewer the impression of witnessing nature in an introspective pause between turbulence and calm.

The waves in the foreground are rendered in swirling, tactile strokes of steel blue and slate grey, giving the sea a physical weight, while the sky above fades from soft beige to shadowy indigo. Davis’s immersive relationship with the Cornish landscape informs every brushstroke.
